My Vision

The River School does not claim to be based on any one educational philosophy, though we share some similar qualities as Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia. It is rooted in a philosophy that all children are born with an "Inner Teacher", the guiding voice. Fostering a child's own organic wisdom lays the foundation for their ability to make healthy choices that benefit not only themselves, but also others and the environment.

Diversity is celebrated. Our mission is to provide a program which offers a safe, consistent, nurturing environment that encourages the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of children at their own rate. The unique personality, culture, needs, abilities and learning style of each child are accepted and appreciated.

We emphasize the importance of nurturing care with a level of respect for the child as a thriving being. During the first few years of life a child's brain is growing very fast. This is the period when a child develops patterns of associations - mental models of the way things work. If guided with compassion and reverence, a sense of well-being and security is instilled.
